Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung and Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan today met Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal People's Government Zhang Hua separately to discuss issues of mutual concern.

Mr Yeung exchanged views with Ms Zhang on Hong Kong-Shenzhen co-operation on culture, sports and tourism and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Mr Yeung said: "The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has been collaborating according to the Culture & Tourism Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

“Hong Kong and Shenzhen, both neighbouring cities situated in the GBA, have been maintaining close liaison and frequent exchanges. Now that Hong Kong has fully resumed normal travel with the Mainland, we believe there will be more co-operation opportunities between Hong Kong and Shenzhen."

The topics of Mr Tse’s meeting with the vice mayor covered environmental industry co-operation between both places and the planning, construction and operation of waste management facilities.

Mr Tse noted that the report to the 20th National Congress clearly states a firm adherence to the belief that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” and focuses on the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature in development planning.

“The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will strengthen co-operation with other cities in the GBA, especially Shenzhen, on environmental protection and ecological conservation."

Joining the meetings were Shenzhen officials from the bureau in charge of ecology and the environment and that on culture, sports and tourism.

The Shenzhen delegation also toured Hong Kong landmarks including the Kai Tak Sports Park site and West Kowloon Cultural District. They will visit the Mai Po Nature Reserve and Tai Mo Shan Country Park on the weekend to experience the city’s eco tourism offerings.
