Chief Executive John Lee said that he believes Hong Kong and Laos will have huge potential and opportunities for co-operation, adding that there is ample room for growth in terms of trade and people-to-people exchanges.
Mr Lee, leading a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delegation for his official visit to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, made this statement as he met reporters this evening in Laos.
During his two-day visit to the country, the Chief Executive highlighted the fact that Hong Kong and Laos entered into 12 memoranda of understanding, covering areas such as trade and economic partnership, investment promotion, customs collaboration, education exchange, logistics co-operation, financial services and air services development.
“Hong Kong companies and businesses can seize the opportunities to tap into a young and promising market in Laos to develop emerging industries jointly,” he pointed out.
Mr Lee will depart for Cambodia tomorrow morning to carry on with his ASEAN visit.
