On day two of his visit in Cambodia, Chief Executive John Lee met Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Cambodia Sar Sokha respectively in Phnom Penh.
During such meetings, Mr Lee, who is leading Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delegation, noted that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations has emerged as a powerhouse of economic growth, with the Cambodian market growing rapidly and possessing remarkable economic potential.
He made it clear that as a "super connector" and "super value-adder" connecting the Mainland with the world, Hong Kong has first-class financial and professional services that can actively contribute to Cambodia's economic development, adding that the city can gain many business opportunities in the process.
Mr Lee and Mr Hun also jointly witnessed an exchange of memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) with the Council for the Development of Cambodia, with the aim of strengthening bilateral co-operation in investment promotion, economics and trade.
The Chief Executive thanked the Cambodian government for supporting Hong Kong's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
Together with Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Sun Chanthol and Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Cambodia Wang Wenbin, Mr Lee attended a business luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Bangkok and the HKTDC.
While addressing government representatives and business leaders of Cambodia at the luncheon, he introduced Hong Kong's development opportunities and business advantages. Enterprises and organisations of Hong Kong and Cambodia exchanged 11 MOUs covering economics and trade, aviation and financial services at the event.
The Chief Executive and the Hong Kong SAR delegation then departed for Hanoi where they attended a dinner with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Mr Lee will carry on with his duty visit in Hanoi tomorrow.
