The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) today invited consultancy proposals for a feasibility study on the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) Supercomputing Centre in Hong Kong.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan announced in the 2023-24 Budget that a feasibility study would be conducted on the centre.

The Government is exploring the development of the centre as a major strategic technology infrastructure to provide AI supercomputing services to local universities, research institutes, government departments and industry sectors, with the aim of strengthening local research and development (R&D) capabilities, advancing related industry ecosystems, and accelerating the development of the AI industry and related R&D in Hong Kong.

The Government will carry out the feasibility study on the Supercomputing Centre and its related business model to assess and ascertain the demand for AI supercomputing services in the city, the scale of the required investment as well as the best operational model and implementation strategy. The study will be completed within 2023-24.

The deadline for submission of proposals is noon on April 6. Click here for details.

Interested consulting firms are welcome to register for a briefing session to be held on March 2. Completed enrolment forms (Annex D of the consultancy brief) should reach the OGCIO at: datacentre@ogcio.gov.hk before 5pm on February 27.
