Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong today visited the Smart Government Pavilion at the International ICT Expo.

Prof Sun acknowledged the efforts of government departments in promoting smart government, and encouraged departments to foster closer collaboration with industries to propel the innovation and technology development of Hong Kong.

He noted that the Smart Government Innovation Lab under the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer has been playing an important bridging role to facilitate collaboration between industry and government departments to help introduce the use of technologies in public services.

He hoped that the public can enjoy the convenience brought by the advancement of technology, which in turn increases their sense of gain and well-being.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a record-breaking 23 government departments and public organisations are participating in this year's Smart Government Pavilion, exhibiting more than 40 technology solutions relating to the promotion of smart city development and enhancement of public services.

Some exhibits incorporate interactive elements for visitors to experience the adopted technologies.

Highlights of the pavilion include the Traffic Data Analytics System, the Wired & Wireless Automatic Meter Reading System, the Flight Token which makes self-check-ins for departing passengers possible through biometric authentication, the Smart Toilet Pilot Programme, the hill fire surveillance system and anti-epidemic technologies.

Taking a valuable opportunity of the country's recruitment of payload specialists for the first time in Hong Kong, a space-themed corner is also on display to enhance the public's understanding and interest in aerospace technology.
