Chief Executive John Lee today said the study team led by CPC Central Committee Hong Kong & Macao Work Office Director and State Council Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Director Xia Baolong is keen to listen to the views of Hong Kong.
At a media session on the second day of Mr Xia’s inspection visit, Mr Lee said the study team is focused on the city's economic developments and district administration, and that there has been a good exchange of views.
“One thing that has been shared is the actual situation of Hong Kong. Both myself, the Financial Secretary and the various principal officials have explained in great detail to the study team.
“And the conclusion of all these meetings indicates that the study team is satisfied with the overall situation of Hong Kong and the way that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is handling it.”
The Central People’s Government today announced that the Individual Visit Scheme will be expanded to include Xian and Qingdao from March 6, allowing residents of the two cities to visit Hong Kong in an individual capacity, in addition to those from the 49 Mainland cities currently covered by the scheme.
“The announcement of these new Individual Visit Scheme cities is a reflection of the central government taking the views and the proposals of the Hong Kong SAR Government seriously and after addressing the different concerns, then have it approved and announced to be implemented very soon.
“One thing I must emphasise is I am very grateful to the central government for its willingness and enthusiasm in listening to the views of Hong Kong and being very serious in helping Hong Kong, and also sometimes looking at things both at the micro and macro level,” Mr Lee added.
Chief Executive John Lee will depart for Hainan tomorrow to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025.
