
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has officially commenced the preliminary screening for payload specialists in the city and the recruitment period will be from October 6 to 27.
The country announced today the official launch of the recruitment of the fourth batch of astronauts and the recruitment of payload specialists in the Hong Kong SAR for the first time, giving Hong Kong citizens the opportunity to participate in the National Manned Space Programme.
The Government noted that Hong Kong has a solid foundation in basic scientific research. In recent years, it has rendered strong support to local universities in conducting research related to aerospace technologies, in which fruitful outcomes were achieved.
The recruitment of payload specialists in Hong Kong offers hope to many aspiring Hong Kong youths in realising their dreams in astronautical endeavours.
Payload specialists are professional scientific researchers who are mainly responsible for conducting aerospace experiments or researches, operating space laboratory equipment, and managing daily operations of space stations with other astronauts.
Preliminary screening of the payload specialists’ recruitment will be arranged by the Hong Kong SAR Government, whereas further screening will be conducted by relevant authorities in the Mainland.
Candidates of payload specialists should be Chinese nationals who are permanent residents of the Hong Kong SAR, aged between 30 and 45 in principle.
Male candidates should be 162 to 175cm tall while female candidates should be 160 to 175cm tall and physically fit with no significant allergies, or past medical history or hereditary diseases which may affect space missions. They also have to be mentally fit.
On academic qualifications, candidates have to be a doctoral degree holder and have at least three years’ professional working experience in certain disciplines.
Recruitment for preliminary screening will mainly be conducted through 11 local universities, five Government research and development centres and Hong Kong Productivity Council, research institutions or companies at the Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport, as well as government departments and the Hospital Authority.
