The Northern Metropolis is a new foothold for Hong Kong’s strategic development in the future. The task force was set up by the Hong Kong SAR Government under the co-operation mechanism with Guangdong and Shenzhen.

The task force aims to strengthen liaison and co-ordination between Hong Kong and the Mainland on matters related to the Northern Metropolis, providing new impetus to the Greater Bay Area development.

At the meeting, the Hong Kong SAR Government gave a briefing on the progress in planning and implementing the Northern Metropolis. There was also an introduction on Shenzhen’s development plans relevant to the mega project.

Both sides exchanged views on various aspects related to the collaboration on the Northern Metropolis, involving cross-boundary transport, control points planning, Qianhai development, works at the Lok Ma Chau Loop and more.

They agreed to strengthen co-operation, making full use of the synergy between the Northern Metropolis and the bay area, especially Shenzhen, in industry development, land use and ecological conservation, as well as the opportunities arising therefrom.

After the meeting, the Hong Kong delegation visited the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, where they received a briefing by the Qianhai Authority of Shenzhen Municipality on the area’s latest development.
