With the commissioning of the Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP), more large-scale concerts bringing significant economic benefits can be held in Hong Kong, Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Rosanna Law said today.

Replying to questions from legislator Chow Man-kong in the Legislative Council, Miss Law outlined that an average of about 15 large-scale pop concerts were held in Hong Kong each month from 2023 to 2024.

Together, she added, these concerts had an audience of more than 4.2 million spectators, including more than 1.5 million tourists, who spent about about $3.7 billion, bringing a value add of about $2.2 billion to the city’s economy.

The culture chief said the KTSP, the city’s largest ever sports infrastructure project, will boost sports development and inject impetus into related industries such as recreation, entertainment, tourism, and the mega-event economy, when it opens in the first quarter of this year.

She highlighted that the park’s operator has so far contacted over 200 sports and non-sports promotional bodies, organisations and agencies, with many committing to rent the venue’s facilities for events, or indicating that they plan to.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Board has set up a dedicated webpage to list information on concerts at different performance venues in Hong Kong, helping visitors to plan ahead.
