SUN DONG STARTS FUJIAN VISIT

Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong today began his visit to Fuzhou in Fujian Province where he met local officials and visited enterprises.

Prof Sun first called on Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of Fujian Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Chen Dong, and briefed him on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s latest effort in promoting the development of innovation, technology and industry in Hong Kong. They also exchanged views on furthering the promotion of innovation and technology (I&T) co-operation between Fujian and Hong Kong.

At a meeting with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Chairman & General Manager Robin Zeng, Prof Sun learnt about the company’s industry planning, development strategies and technological advancements in traction batteries and storage batteries.

The Hong Kong SAR Government is setting up the New Industrialisation Development Office, with new energy technology being one of the strategic industries pursued. In this connection, the technology chief said the Hong Kong SAR Government will endeavour to promote the development of such industries by supporting quality and representative enterprises to expand their businesses, adding that ancillary facilities and services will be provided.

He then toured Hengmei Optoelectronic Corporation’s industrial park and clean room production facilities, and was briefed by its management on the company’s planning, business layout and development in the field of high-end polarisers manufacturing.

Prof Sun also met Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of People’s Government of Fujian Province Director Lin Wensheng, Fujian Province Department of Science & Technology Deputy Director Huang Shu, and Fujian Province Department of Industry & Information Technology Deputy Director Chen Chuanfang to discuss issues of concern and explore opportunities to take forward I&T and industry development co-operation between Hong Kong and Fujian.
