The Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) today announced that, starting from tomorrow, local mobile service providers will send voice alerts to users of local mobile and fixed services when they pick up calls made from newly activated local pre-paid SIM cards. The move is aimed at encouraging the public to stay vigilant against suspicious calls.
The OFCA explained that under the new measure, when users answer calls made from such SIM cards, providers will first play a voice alert message, stating âThis call is made from a new pre-paid SIM cardâ, before the call is connected.
The alert service will be provided by mobile service providers free of charge. Users are not required to register in advance, install any mobile apps, or change any settings on their mobile or fixed-line phones.
Members of the public are reminded to always stay vigilant when using telecommunications services. They should not answer calls from unknown numbers casually, and should not disclose personal information or transfer money to unknown callers whose identities have not been verified.
