Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong today officiated at the Cybersecurity Symposium 2024 and shared the latest government efforts in safeguarding cybersecurity in Hong Kong.
The symposium was co-organised by the Digital Policy Office (DPO) and the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation, with Policeâs Cyber Security & Technology Crime Bureau as strategic partner.
It aimed to foster collaboration between public and private organisations to strengthen Hong Kongâs overall cybersecurity defence and resilience capabilities.
Over 30 industry experts and business leaders from the Mainland and Hong Kong as well as around 1,000 industry professionals from public and private organisations joined the symposium to discuss emerging threats of cybersecurity, attack and defence strategies, and artificial intelligence governance.
In his opening remarks, Prof Sun said: âHong Kong is expediting the development of a digital economy and a smart city. Enhancing cybersecurity is an important aspect of promoting high-quality economic development and constructing a smart city. There is a pressing need for us to fortify the cybersecurity defence line.â
He noted that maintaining cybersecurity is society's common responsibility and requires the collaboration of the Government, industry organisations, enterprises and the public at large to create a safer digital environment.
The technology chief added that he looks forward to generating new momentum for the developments of the economies of Hong Kong and the country through the continued joint efforts of the industry and professional bodies, and the good use of the cityâs distinctive advantages of enjoying strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world.
Several keynote speeches and panel discussion sessions as well as a cybersecurity solutions exhibition were held at the symposium. The DPO also shared the achievements and experiences from the first Hong Kong Cybersecurity Attack & Defence Drill that it organised in November.
